Step 2: Connect to your Medisoft Practice Management Software
Configure the ODBC driver to connect with your Medisoft data dictionary.
Depending on your version of Windows, the following images may not represent exactly what you see. However, the process should be similar for all Windows versions.
Go to your computer's Control Panel, and select Administrative Tools. From the Administrative Tools menu, select Data Sources (ODBC). This should open the ODBC Data Source Administrator. Select the System DSN tab, and you should see a window similar to the one below.
You may or may not have any entries in your System DSN list. Click Add to create a new entry. Select the “Advantage StreamlineSQL ODBC” driver from the list and click Finish. This entry was created in Step 1 above.
After you click Finish, the driver setup window should display. Complete these fields based on the info below, and click OK when finished.
- Data Source Name – This must be set to the value “msgr_medisoft” without the quotation marks.
- Description – Enter whatever description you like here.
- Database or Data Dictionary Path – Check the Data Dictionary checkbox. The path that you should enter here is the actual path of your Medisoft data dictionary on your hard drive or network. (This is typically in your Medisoft DATA folder.)
- Remote Server (ADS) – It is important to leave this checkbox checked.
- Local Server (ALS) – This checkbox should be checked.
- Accept defaults for all other values.

You should now see the msgr_medisoft entry that you just created on the System DSN tab. Click OK to complete Step 2.
